Amaryllis is one of my favorite winter flowers. The large showy flowers contrast with the strong structural forms of the stem, buds and exposed bulb. In the past I have forced narcissus. They displayed a profusion of delicate translucent blossoms that glistened they were so fresh. Indoor flowers help bridge the days between the last vibrant display of autumn color to the first peek of crocus in spring. What are your favorite flowers for this time of year?

"Scooch up there." "No NOT there, there." "Your paw is in my eye." "Let's hurry it up." "You guys are HEAVY." "I think I'm slipping." "No, no just a bit more over that way and you'll be fine." "Now, I'll get on and we won't be so unbalanced."

In spite of the constant updates and chatter on the news the prompt for this week's illustration took me back to the breakfast table of long ago. Oatmeal had been served up to my dismay. There were raisins in the grey mixture, contaminating the stuff in the bowl. While I was suffering over that the parental hand was liberally sprinkling wheat germ all over the place. That was then. Now I actually like oatmeal and wheat germ is not so bad either.
