Illustration Friday--Vacant

This week's topic vacant, reminded me of an illustration I did several years ago for a story about a young girl who makes a garden in a vacant lot near her apartment. See Kim's story in SeedFolks by Paul Fleischman.

Illustration Friday -- Late

Late is when the test pattern would come on the TV. I don't think that happens anymore. I don't stay up that late anymore.

Illustration Friday - Sugary

Some of the orchards in this area make homemade apple cinnamon doughnuts that are then rolled in cinnamon sugar. With a cold glass of cider it is the perfect sugary treat of the season.

Forcing Crocuses

Last fall we were overly optimistic about what we could accomplish before winter set in. We bought many bags of crocuses and other small bulbs to naturalize. It snowed Thanksgiving weekend and hasn't melted since. I spotted these charming pots at our local nursery. These should be blooming soon. At least there will be spring indoors.

Illustration Friday 100% Pure

I started thinking about the 100% symbol and how a lot of old product labels use it to make claims about a product. From there I jumped to thoughts about various the products. Maybe someone really is just filling up the bottles from the faucet. A growing awareness about water increases my interest and concern about this resource. I live on a well and am responsible for the quality of the water my family drinks. 100% pure? I hope so.
