Illustration Friday Superstition

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a sixpence for your shoe. This is a little rhyme that wishes a bride luck in marriage. The bride gathers these items from friends and family. Something old is to signify connection with the traditions of the past. Something new represents hope and optimism for the future. Something borrowed should be an item from a friend or family member who has married well. Something blue symbolizes purity. The sixpence is to bring luck and fortune. Here I have a lace glove, sixpence, handkerchief, lapis ring and a pearl necklace. The sixpence works best if it is placed in the left shoe. All these items must be carried by the bride on her wedding day for the luck to come true.
